Online conference opportunities like the “K12 Online Conference” are definitely interesting and if the topic hits your needs quite useful. It is definitely worth playing around with, the only bummer was the slow video feed times on most I visited.
Of course I was draw to the design stuff. Dean Shareski’s “Design Matters” was the perfect fit. It was a little long running at about 25 min. He did cover some interesting topics in modern school design such as: Planning, Imagery, Whitespace, Constraints and Innovation. I did learn new things such as the way designers are designing new schools today to better serve our student learners. And it is not limited to new spaces, teachers are also making adjustments to current spaces. The goal is to make a better, less institutionalized space to learn in. My school is already very cutting edge in this arena most rooms are customized by teachers for students. I think this video inspired me to really clean my room up and rethink its layout. Unfortunately, I can’t make it any bigger.
